Transit 24 is a shelter for women victims of domestic violence, whose mission is to welcome you for the necessary time to allow you a period of respite and find a solution to your problems.

Transit 24 is a shelter for women and their children victims of domestic violence. All services offered are free and aim to welcome and support these women and their children. Through personalized and confidential support, we help them identify solutions tailored to their situation.
Transit 24 is also a Second-Stage Home. This space allows women to continue their journey toward stability after an initial period of accommodation. Thanks to sustained, longer-term support, they can continue to progress at their own pace toward a more peaceful and violence-free life. Children also benefit from compassionate support.
Also, Transit 24 is an External Consulting Office for women victims of domestic violence who are not housed, as well as those receiving post-housing follow-up, and their children.

We offer our services in 12 languages:

Our success in numbers
Maison Transit 24 is a non-profit organization that helps domestic violence victims - women and their children. Our mission is to help our clients break the cycle of domestic violence by providing direct assistance.
Our ongoing goal is raising awareness among women about domestic violence, encouraging them to seek help in shelters, and offering them protection support that allow them to achieve autonomy.
During her stay at Transit 24, the woman, far from her parents and friends, finds herself in a neutral environment that encourages her to reflect and make informed decisions to get out of her situation, without being influenced.
The women and children welcomed into our home come from diverse cultural communities. Our interventions are designed to respect the individual, their worldview, their value system, and their needs.
With our External Consultation Office (BCE), Transit 24 also aims to raise awareness among women who are not hosted in the Shelter about the issue of domestic violence and to offer them various listening, support and guidance services in their efforts to regain control over their lives.

Our Story
In 1987, a group of immigrant and Quebec women, moved by their own life experiences or sensitized to the problem of domestic violence, met to establish the foundations of a shelter.
These women, residents of the Ahuntsic district, have chosen this place to set up this haven of peace that offers support and comfort to women and their children, victims of domestic violence.
The name Transit 24 suggested both the transition period experienced by its customers and 24 hour service.

1988: Transit 24 was created in a two-bedroom apartment that accommodated 5 people.

1990: Transit 24 grew and could accommodate up to 9 people thanks to a grant from the Ministry of Health and Social Services

1993: With the collaboration of the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) acquired a large house with a capacity of 15 beds
-
2010 and 2011: Renovation and expansion of the common areas of the house were carried out which required the house to be closed for a few months. The result was amazing

2013: Fundraising campaign organized by the Quebec Business Women's Network (RFAQ) on the instructions of Me Louise Cadieux, Chairman of the Board of Directors.
The same year also saw the opening of a consultation office for external customers given the growing number of requests.

2016: Closure of the consultation office due to significant costs and lack of funding; this remains a challenge to be taken up in the coming years.

2018: On September 21, Transit 24 celebrates its 30th anniversary!
450,000 interventions and served nearly 33,000 meals, for an average accommodation rate of 97%.
The thirtieth anniversary was an opportunity to take a retrospective look at the evolution of the House from its inception to the present day. A special thank you to our Federal Deputy, Ms. Mélanie Joly, to our board of directors as well as to our closest partners and collaborators.
The credit for this evening undoubtedly went to the housed and ex-housed women who testified eloquently and often very touchingly about their experiences and the positive impact of Transit 24 on their life course.

2020: Covid-19 pandemic, forces us to review all of our internal sanitation practices in order to be able to continue to meet the needs of women being accommodated in a shelter.

Definition of domestic violence
The United Nations defines violence against women as “all acts of violence directed against the female sex, and causing or likely to cause physical, sexual or psychological harm or suffering to women, including the threat of such acts. , coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether in public or private life. ” (Declaration on the Elimination of Violence Against Women, UN General Assembly Resolution 48/104)

How to set yourself free?
A place to rebuild.
A space to protect oneself.
A future to reconstruct.
Open since December 10, 2025, our Second-Stage Shelter has 10 units. It offers safe and affordable housing to women and children who have experienced domestic violence and for whom safety issues persist after separation from their partners.
In a context where fear and insecurity are still present, we offer much more than just accommodation: a space where it is possible to feel protected, rebuild oneself and regain control over one's life.
Through personalized professional support, we assist each woman on her journey towards autonomy, stability and building a future free from violence, filled with security and hope.
Unlike the Shelter, which is an emergency and short-term response, the Second-Stage House offers medium-term accommodation.
The services offered are essentially the same as those available at Shelter, except that they are aimed at women for whom separation poses risks to their safety. Therefore, the intervention focuses on strategies for protecting and strengthening their autonomy.
Services offered:
- Transitional, safe, confidential, and affordable housing;
- Individual and group interventions for women and children;
- Educational and recreational group workshops;
- Support with legal procedures (court, youth protection services, lawyer, and others).
All services are free; the accommodation will cost you approximately 30% of its actual cost.
To be accepted and housed at MH2, you must be referred by your caseworker at the Shelter.
The intervention team will contact the applicant and schedule an interview.
Applications are then reviewed by a selection committee.
How to set yourself free?
External Consulting Office (BCE) serves women experiencing domestic violence who are not in the Shelter, as well as those receiving post-shelter support, and their children.
Personalized support is offered based on each woman's needs. This service is available Monday to Friday.
At BCE, we offer the following services:
- Telephone listening and consultation,
- Support and guidance with legal processes (criminal complaints, civil court, etc.),
- Individual meetings,
- Group workshops.

OUR SERVICES ARE OFFERED IN MULTIPLE LANGUAGES
All children welcome! Every child will have access to a youth counselor. The counselor is available to recognize and identify the dynamics of young people's feelings and behaviours. In order to be able to offer children an adequate intervention, individual or group, Transit24 has a room dedicated to them. Specific tools have also been developed to better meet their needs.
